You can set it to wake you up on any particular day.and it's so easy to set and use.But it's not the ICF-M410. It has unbelievable AM reception.best I've ever witnessed. The sound quality is more than sufficient, but where it shines is AM reception. However, it doesn't even come remotely close to the IFC-M410.
It's a true shame that Sony wouldn't recognize what they had here, and continue to make this model. A shame that Sony never recognized that.and that it should still be a staple on the market. This radio has attracted a cult following.often selling for almost $200. I'm not sure if it's because of the design, or the incredible reception. I live in NYC, surrounded by skyscrapers, and this radio never disappoints. I also own a Boston Acoustics Horizon Solo, which is known for its AM reception.and it is good.
I use rechargeable batteries and they seem to last about a week of hard, long use.Again, this is what a portable radio should be. Tested side-by-side, the IFC-M410 brings in stations that the Horizon Solo could only dream about.I also own a newer Sony ICF-C1ipMK2 Clock Radio/iPod dock. It has 7 am and 7 fm presets. You can fall asleep to one radio station and wake to another. In the evening I clearly bring in stations like WBZ in Boston. It has dual alarms that can both be customized to wake you up with buzzer or alarm. I paid $39.99 at the Sony Style Store on Madison Avenue and wish I had bought another.
It's a nice device with a lot of features and decent AM reception.but again, not in the same stratosphere as the IFC-M410.And lastly, my Sangean RCR2 is a superb clock radio.with every feature known to man. I own a number of clock radios, and this is by far the best. I have owned this radio for well over 10 years. It even shines when away from windows.Yes, I do wish it had more presets, but that's really nitpicking.
Since the change of TV to digital, not analog, the TV sound has disappeared. But Amazon needs to remove it from TV sound.
Beware. There are no portables that have TV sound at this time in the US.
I thought I was getting not only AM/FM sound, but TV as well. It is a very good unit for what is specified.
Good buy for what it is though. When it arrived the mode button did not give TV mode.
One cannot get TV sound on this unit.
Best portable radio I've ever owned. This radio has excellent reception, very good sound quality, and the controls are easy to use. Even after being dropped many times onto a hardwood floor from bed level it remains cosmetically undamaged and still works great.
Hope Sony comes out with an adapter or new version of this slim radio in the near future I just really miss the TV Audio stations. I work 9 to 5 and am a soap opera fan, this radio was slim and discreet on my desk, picked up tv audio so I could stay up to date on my soaps and saved me tv time at home so I could just zoom through to the parts I really wanted to see on my taped soaps. This was all good and well until TV went digital, I contacted sony and there is currently no adapter to continue to receive TV audio on this model, but it is still a great radio for my office.
The weather signal is a tad on the weak side, but I did'nt buy it for that purpose as I have a weather radio.I am an electronic tecnician and I recommend this radio. This Sony radio with a digital tuner is a nice portable radio.
